Yulia Filippova is a Russian-born contemporary artist based in Grimaud, in the south of France. Born in Siberia in 1975, she works across painting, sculpture, and glass, with a particular focus on abstraction and material experimentation. Her paintings are developed through a physical process of layering, scraping, splashing, and reworking paint directly on canvases placed on the floor. The resulting works balance spontaneity with control, often combining dense textures, open areas, and shifts in color and light. Across her practice, Filippova is interested in movement, surface, and the way materials can suggest atmosphere without relying on figurative imagery.
